Mennel Milling Co. Sets Up New Donor Advised Fund

The Greater Fostoria Community Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of The Mennel Milling Company Charitable Foundation, a new donor advised fund of the GFCF. Donor advised funds are a means of encouraging endowment support, stimulating interchange of ideas between donors and the Foundation, and providing funds to extend the charitable purposes of the Foundation. "As a company that has stood the test of time for well over 125 years through five generations of family leaderships, The Mennel Milling Company's vision for establishing this fund will support philanthropic efforts in perpetuity," said Michele Cochran, executive director of the GFCF.

GFCF Total Awards Reach Over $1.5 Million

The Greater Fostoria Community Foundation has now given over $1.5 million back to the community in the form of grant awards to area non-profit organizations. The most recent award of nearly $72,000 was given to the Geary Family YMCA for projects at Foundation Park this year. This award will go toward additional improvements on fields 2 & 3, including fencing, new dugouts and concrete under the bleachers, along with more portable restrooms at Foundation Park.

Spring 2014 Grant Awards Near $43,000

The Greater Fostoria Community Foundation, Inc. (GFCF) has announced spring grant awards: • Geary Family YMCA – $25,000 for the operation of Foundation Park • Fostoria City Schools – $10,000 grant for revitilization of Longfellow Elementary playground • Black Swamp Area Council Boy Scouts of America – a $5,000 grant toward improvements at Camp Berry • Caring Hands Pregnancy Center – $600 for TV, DVD player and educational materials to implement a learning rewards program. These grant awards bring the total distribution of grant awards by the GFCF to over $1,463,902 since the Foundation’s inception in 1998. For more information, see

All funds received by GFCF through this program will support the operation, maintenance and renovation of Foundation Park. GFCF Grants $5,000 To Kaubisch Public Library

The Greater Fostoria Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Kaubisch Memorial Public Library. This award will be used to archive approximately 19 years of physical copies of "The Fostoria Focus" newspaper on microfilm. Transferring all the back issues of the newspaper to microfilm will protect and ensure the future availability of this source of local history. This grant brings the total distribution of grant awards to over $1,421,160 since the Foundation's inception in 1998.

(GFCF) has announced grant awards for the year: • Geary Family YMCA – grants totaling $167,890.02 for Foundation Park • Seneca County Commission on Aging – a $3,650 grant for a specialized van • Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio – a $1,000 grant for PROMISE program.
